8/30/2021 Man who died after being swept into Mississippi River in St. Paul ID’d as 20-year-old from Little Canada

A man found dead in the Mississippi River after he was swept from a St. Paul storm drain last weekend was identified Monday as a 20-year-old from Little Canada.

Five people, including Tiquann M. Davis Jr., were exploring large storm drains that empty into the river, according to the Ramsey County sheriff’s office and St. Paul fire department. A 911 call about a water emergency came in around 12:50 a.m. Sunday, and firefighters, law enforcement and water patrol were sent to the river in the area of the Lake Street/Marshall Avenue bridge.

Heavy rain had flooded the storm drains, according to the fire department. Two people were able to escape and three were swept into the river, the sheriff’s office said.

First responders got four people to safety, but couldn’t find the fifth. They discovered Davis’ body in the river as they continued the search later Sunday morning.
